From a private generational collection, comes this very unique doll.  Body is completely composed of wood (thought to be walnut), head is constructed from a walnut, yellow basket is an acorn half, and face appears to be hand-painted.  Doll wears a double cinnamon pink and brilliant yellow floral sprig dress with a madder brown background, a cocoa brown and madder stripe shawl is draped over her shoulders, while her waist contains an overdye green slash, and bonnet looks to be constructed of the same fabric.  Doll is not jointed, but can stand on her own.  Madder brown textiles are the most distinctive colors of this period.  Fabric dyed with madder often have a mixtrure of colors in the print, including a warm dark brown, light tan brown, dark Van Dyke brown, and orange. Deep pinks, yellows, butterscotch appeared in floral prints, or paisleys.
