Description
Hello! My name is Primitive Polly. My name comes from the fabrics and the era in which I was conceived. I was born in Franklin County, NC. in the early 1930's. My maker had just experiecned the Great Depression and was in a quandry as to how to provide warm, suitable covering for her children's beds. She was a woman of strong determination and was not to be deterred in her efforts. First, she found a few scraps from the feed sack, she used to make her daughter's dress. Next she took scraps from the dress she had almost worn out, and cut out the bright plaid squares. The tiny checked fabric with the pink flowers came from the baby's small apron type dress. The solid pink came from a discarded petticoat. She realized that this fabric might not hold up under the rigors of the children and lined it with some of the feed sack material. There are scraps from a skirt the older daughter had made and material from the father's heavy shirt. If you will look closely on my belly, you will find faint letterings that show part of my body came from the heavy guano bags used by the farmer. There are other solid color bags that were dyed to give me a little more "sex" appeal. It looks as if I was sewn together by hand as well as being quilted by hand. With all of the heavy fabrics used, my maker used heavy thread to keep me together. You can tell she still wanted her quilt to look good, by the fan style quilting she did. Yeah, my maker was quite a lady and even though she is gone, I am still around as a testimony to her grit and fortitude in providing for her family. Though most of my fabrics are not store bought, I still cut quite a pose. My 27" body is stuffed with modern day fiberfil that gives me a" well rounded" figure and makes me easy to snuggle up to, as well! My large "lonesome" eyes are made from the button's from my maker's husband's coat. So you can see I have become an entire family's life. Won't you take me and make me a part of yours?
