To commemorate the year - 1907 - when Steiff produced one million bears. This handsome chap has been been from specially selected sparse mohair and softly stuffed with wood shaving to give it the look and feel of the original version in the Steiff Museum. Mohair Teddy bear 1907 blond, is a true replica because the new versions have faithfully recreated the original with a little patina and the physical traces of countless loving hugs throughout the decades. In order to attain this “worn” look, the Teddy bears first had to take a trip to mohair producers Schulte, who have been serving Margarete Steiff GmbH for over 100 years, having also supplied the plush for the original Teddy bear. Here, a rather sparse plush was created, emulating the current condition of the original. In addition, the plush and the felt paws were patinated slightly. The wood shavings used to stuff the replicated Teddy bear has also been deliberately made a little lighter than usual, given that the wood shavings found in the original Teddy bear has shrunk somewhat over the last 100 years. This also gives the replicas the charming, slightly bowed head of the original. The “worn” impression is conveyed perfectly through the slightly asymmetrical ears and a nose that has been discreetly waxed. And, needless to say, the brushed stainless steel “Button in Ear” features the typical “Steiff” lettering from 1907 with the final F tailing back to the E. This button has been used since circa1906 up until the 1930s. For the first time ever, this replica now bears this very “Button in Ear”: with the same design and made from the same material as the original. Such a perfect reproduction that this Teddy bear could pass as the twin brother of the original, gazing at the world through his boot-button eyes – waiting to be lifted up and hugged or to take pride of place in a collector’s showcase. The original Teddy bear from 1907 can be admired in the “Die Welt von Steiff” Adventure Museum. However, it has now also been resurrected as a unique replica.
