Description
Papier Mache Greiner label -Must see doll! Description: This is a great doll. She is very early, 1858. She was made by Ludwig Greiner of Philadelphia, PA. This was the first doll patented in America. What a piece of history!Luckily this came from a family that kept their belongs nice. Just think this doll is 147 years old. She is wonderful. Her face has not been redone nor touched up. She has minor rubs and one tiny hole on the top of her head. I'm really wondering if it was in the mold as I can't imagine how it happened. It's about the size of small nail head. The shoulder plate has the label on the back. It's a brown color label that says very clearly Greiner's Patent Heads No. 11 March 30th, 1858. Her hands have been replaced but the old leather hands are in a bag which accompany the doll. The old cotton stuffing is there also. I have not totally undressed her but the prior owner said it was the original body to the doll and it had been in the family it's entire existence! She is 28" tall. From the top of the head to the base of the shoulder plate is 9 3/4". She had the wide shoulders that are very sloped. She has a very thin waist compared to her shoulders. She has small feet but someone has added boots which are way too big but I'm including them with her. Maybe whoever redid the arms added them. They are not old, old! It is just so rare to find such a great doll, I don't know what to say about her. There is some craze lines but nothing that detracts from her beauty. She has blue eyes and black eyelashes painted above her eyes. She has one stroke eyebrows. There is one spot of paint off cheek on one side and on the top of her nose. The nostril dots are in the same paint as the lips. There is some rub to the lips. Her ears are partially exposed and her black curls are framing her face. The hairstyle has one smooth combed vertical line area in the back and then curls around the bottom. I have taken lots of pictures so if you would like others sent through email, just write me. I have not taken off all of her clothing. The outer wear is a top and skirt. Someone has added some snaps to it. There is an old half slip, I guess a full slip, and pantaloons. They are all old. I would just replace the boots which are not old. If you are into early, I'm sure you will love her. Please check out the other items I have for sale in my Ebay Store. Thanks for veiwing.
