Description
Hitty, a wooden doll based on Rachel Field’s Book “Hitty: Her First Hundred Years” Frozen Hitty hand-carved by Mary Lee Sundstrom Costumed by Sandy Reinke Hitty is a 6-1/4-inch hand-carved wooden doll based on the heroine from Rachel Field’s 1929 Newbery Medal Winning book, “Hitty: Her First Hundred Years.” While the original one-of-a-kind doll resides permanently at the Stockbridge Library in Massachusetts, over the years many artists have created their own versions of Hitty. This version of Hitty is called the “Frozen Hitty” and was offered by Mary Lee Sundstrom and Sandy Reinke after their limited edition Hitty was sold out. The “Frozen Hitty” is the same size and has the same face as the limited edition Hitty. The only difference is that her legs are carved as one piece so her chemise and pantalettes are painted on. She is wearing her strand of coral beads and a brown print dress hand-made by Sandy. She is signed, numbered – #13 – and dated – 3-29-96. This doll was a part of my grandmother’s extensive doll collection and was displayed in a glass case since she received her. She was a bit difficult to photograph as the light kept bouncing off her face. Shipping within the United States is a flat $10. I will ship internationally for an additional charge and can provide a quote depending on the country. Be sure to check out my other auctions and feel free to email any questions you may have. Good luck and happy bidding!
