Description
Doll Pocket Watch with Working Hands   Shown in the photos is an antique working doll’s pocket watch marked “A.M.” (Armand Marseilles ?) at the top of the dial and “France” at the bottom.  I estimate the age as late 19th century.  The name France at the bottom might be to give the hand painted dial more realism, as that’s where a lot of watches were still being made at this time.   The dial looks like a miniature enamel dial and the hands are gold color.   The original glass crystal is still set in the bezel over the dial.   When you turn the tiny crown you hear a ratchet or clicking sound and the hands move.  The case appears to by gilded bronze or brass.  It is slightly pressed in at the back.  This is a very rare item to be found in this good working condition with the original doll’s watch chain with working bail.  The chain was gilded as well, with original gilding still present.  I would have to guess that this particular item is right up there with the rarest of the rare doll or doll house accessory pieces.   The watch is just over an Inch from bow to bottom.  The chain is about 7 Inches.   Apparently the case was cast in one piece and the tiny movement with hands, dial and stem inserted.  Then the crystal was pressed into the bezel to hold all in place, the crown fixed in place and the bow attached.   This would make an ideal addition to any period Bisque or other gent doll (shown in his hand or placed in his vest or pant pocket with the chain showing), or in a period dollhouse left on a bedside table or displayed on a miniature pocket watch holder.   It would also make a fine additon to any collection of minature toys or accent to a watch collection.   If anything important has been overlooked, you have anything to add, or more photos are desired please do not hesitate to make contact.    If you like the starting price, get things rolling early, be one up on the under-bidder and add a little excitement to the auction.    Bids at the last possible second will also be gratefully accepted.   When bidding, allow for Postage, Handling and Insurance.     I ship insured as a matter of course for all items with the exception of some foreign destinations where insurance is not available.   For International Shipping please contact me first.   Thanks for Looking !     watchclockgo Store
