Description
Dolls and More All Bisque Connie Walser Derek Reproduction Schmitt Et Fils Connie Walser Derek Bisque Doll I live in El Paso, a bridge away from Mexico, and there is a large military complex here that brings folks in from all over the world so I am never surprised at what I find! :-). My auctions come from flea markets, yard and estate sales, thrift stores, and I also do consignment sales. Cynthia Sommers has decided to pare down her collection. These dolls and accessories are from the collection of a mature, non-smoking woman. Items have only been displayed in glass cabinents, not played with. These are quality reproductions, not toys. This is a 22-inch (56cm) Schmitt et Fils French Bebe, ca. 1880 reproduction. She was made in 1987 by renown artist Connie Walser Dereck. Name of the doll is unknown. Head circumference is 13" (33cm), head is marked SCH with coat of arms 1987/Connie Walser Derek. The body is a 9-part composition, no makers marks. Doll has blue paperwieght eyes, an ash blond mohair wig (by Mrs Sommers). She was purchased with dress and underwear in 1988 by Mrs Sommers for $485. Dress is beige lace with pin tucks. Under slip and pantaloons are trimmed in matching lace. Dress feels soft and pictures do not do it justice. Ms Sommers completed hand dressing this doll. She crocheted her knit stockings, she made the leather shoes, she added gold-enamel antique buttons on bodice of dress, she made the unique doll stand, added earrings, and made the hair adornment from antique silk flowers. The last 2 pictures show another of Ms Sommer's dolls, but they all have the same stand designed and made by Ms Sommers and her son. I believe they do have a patent pending on their design. Doll is attached to stand by means of a corset sewned to wire supports secured in a wooden material decorated base. Stands holds doll's weight securely and keeps her safely positioned. Here's a brief history of Schmitt & Sons, Emile Barrois and Belton: From 1863 to 1892 Schmitt & Sons of Pairs used the body mark SCH surrounded by a coat of arms. From 1879-1890, they made an unbreakable jointed doll called Babe Schmitt. Ms Sommers owned and operated Nina Art Studios in Las Cruces, NM, for many years. She is an accomplished artist in oils. She has a Mildred Seeley Educational Doll Judging Systems diploma and is qualified to judge reproduction, original, collectable and antique dolls for general competition. She is meticulous in authentically dressing dolls in period clothing. I was fortunate to visit in Ms Sommers' home and view her extensive collection of outstanding dolls. It was like going to an elegant doll museum and talking to Ms Sommers was like speaking with the curator. Please feel free to ask any questions about this umbrella or Ms Sommers.
